Stormwater Management - Stakeholder Meeting

Retention PondLast night's stakeholder meeting (May 20th) at St Martin's Episcopal church, was the first of two intended to involve the local community in the issues affecting the Mill Creek watershed of which Lake Powell Forest is a part.

 

The Mill Creek watershed is the oldest developed watershed in James City County including some 5.7 square miles of land. Because of developments over the years, the area has changed from mainly forest to a point where 21% of the land is impervious, so a lot of storm water, that used to be absorbed by the forest, now runs off these hard surfaces, much of it into drains and gullys and into streams.

 

We were given some most informative talks by the stormwater division of the county, showing us some of the 10 miles of streams and 86 storm water outflows that are pouring storm water, sediment and pollutants into Lake Powell and thus ...

Mill Creek Watershed Meeting

Lake PowellJames City County is hosting a stakeholder meeting for all who live or work in the Mill Creek Watershed on May 20 at 7 p.m. at St Martin's Episcopal Church, 1333 Jamestown Road. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the watershed, voice concerns and discuss issues affecting Mill Creek. Results from the recent water quality study will be presented. Water Restrictions - May 1st - Sept 30th

Sprinkler"In order to protect the public health, safety and welfare and insure the integrity of the James City Service Authority water system, during the period beginning May 1 and ending September 30 of each year, outdoor use of James City Service Authority water is prohibited, except that properties with even-numbered street addresses can use water outdoors on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and properties with odd-numbered street addresses can use water outdoors on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays provided that outdoor water use occurs between the hours of midnight and 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and midnight. No outdoor water use shall occur on Mondays except as provided below in subparagraph (d). For the purpose of this section, the last whole number of a property address shall be used to determine whether the property address is odd or even." Read the full rules at OUTDOOR WATER USE


Public Meeting about quality of water in our Mill Creek Watershed

Thanksgiving Trash Collection

Trash cartThere will be no trash collection this thursday (Thanksgiving). Instead curbside trash will be collected friday. Curbside recycling has been rescheduled for saturday November 28th. See JCC Solid Waste Management for more info on recycling.
